A Happy New Year to you from everyone here at Fibre-East! It only seems like yesterday that we were all gathered at Redborne Community College, immersed in all the fibery goodness that is Fibre-East. But astonishingly, it is now less than 200 days until it all happens again!

So what’s been going on behind the scenes at Fibre-East Mission Control in the meantime? Well, plenty! The application forms for vendors have been available since December and there aren’t many spaces left! Many of your old favourites will be returning in July as well as some new faces. Over the coming months, we’ll be chatting with some of the vendors to get to know them a little better and also to find out what delights they will be bringing with them to tempt you. You’d better start your Fibre-East savings tin right now! It’s never too early!

The competition forms should be available to download from the website sometime this week, so keep your eyes peeled for those! We’ll be talking to some of last year’s winners and sharing some of their entries with you which hopefully will inspire you to take the plunge and enter something yourself.

We are also on the lookout for volunteers to help out. If you’d like to be involved, we’d love to hear from you. Please email info@fibre-east.co.uk and we’ll send you a form. Thank you! It really is great fun!

Some of the Fibre-East team (Jan, Allison and Gill – you’ll probably recognise them as they are to be seen at FE sporting hi-vis jackets and clutching walkie-talkies!) took part in Spinzilla last October. Shiela (peahen on Ravelry) did all the organising and it was the first time that the UK had been represented by a team – Team Hand Spinning News UK. You may well know Shiela from her website and monthly newsletter. Fibre-East donated some money to Shiela towards the cost of the aprons that the spinners were given, which had the Fibre-East logo on as well as the Spinzilla sheep, and Martin from Curtis Wools Ltd donated some beautiful Shetland fibre for the spinners. The UK team of 25 spinners did fantastically well, finishing 7th out of 67 teams entering and 3rd for country yardage! Pretty good going for the first time of entering. Some of the other members of the Spinzilla team will be at Fibre-East in July, so keep your eyes open for some smokin’ spinning wheels!

Well, that’s got you up to date for now. Please bookmark our website and keep checking the blog as there are plans for competitions  and giveaways in the lead up to Fibre-East. Make sure you have the weekend written in your diary – 30th and 31st July 2016. It’s definitely going to be the place to be! It’s now possible to leave comments on the blog, so don’t be shy and tell us what you’d like to see at this year’s event!
